MedQIA employs a model-based approach to segmentation of CT images (Brown 1997, Brown 1998). The key component of the architecture are an anatomical model, an inference engine and image processing routines.A model of the expected size, shape, topology and X-ray attenuation of anatomical structures is used to guide 3-D segmentation and ROIs are recognized using fuzzy logic.
