Emphysema Treatment Targeting and
Outcome Assessment

MedQIA has extensive experience in quantitative imaging techniques for patient selection and treatment targeting of minimally-invasive emphysema treatments. Lobar lung volume and density analysis combined with Fissure Integrity Scoring. Airway Morphometry and visualization tools are used to provide treatment planning reports.

MedQIA biomarkers allow quantitation of pre- and post-treatment changes for outcome assessment. For emphysema treatments that reduce lobar volume, MedQIA has developed the Target Lobe Atelectasis Score (TLAS). A TLAS of 100% indicates complete atelectasis of a treated lobe.

where Vpre = pre-treatment lobar volume and Vpost is the post-treatment volume.
The image below shows post treatment atelectasis of the right upper lobe following treatment with the Zephyr valve and expansion of the lower lobe (Brown 2007).
